The diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of nutrition-related diseases such as protein-calorie malnutrition, iron-deficiency anemia, vitamin A deficiency, and diarrhea in young children are discussed. Emphasis is placed on nutritional requirements, the nutritive value of foods, and how to provide a varied energy-adequate diet for infants and young children. The importance of breast milk and breastfeeding is stressed and illustrated.
